Are you an Amazon Prime member? If so, you’re probably wondering why Amazon Prime Day hasn’t happened yet and that is because the company released a statement recently detailing why they had to push back the annual deals celebration for its members.
What is ‘Amazon Prime Day’?
For people that are not in the United States, you are probably wondering what this special day is.
Well, Amazon Prime Day is actually a two-day celebration of great deals for all Amazon Prime members. That means that official members will get exclusive deals and discounts that are usually not offered at any other time of the year.
That being said, Amazon Prime Day is usually held in the 2nd or 3rd week of July. In 2019, it was held on July 15 and 16, but the company issued a press statement saying that while the event is still going to happen, it will not be until later this year.
At the time of writing this article, there are still no specific details regarding when the ‘Prime’ Day will happen, but a company representative did say that Amazon Prime Day will happen in India between August 6 and 7. Whether this means that the US Prime Day will be on the same dates, that remains to be seen.
The delay in the company’s special celebration is obviously due to the Covid-19 pandemic. You could say that the company is experiencing a massive staff underload thanks to the recent surge in online shopping as a result of the said pandemic.
Back in March, the company has seen a massive increase in numbers of people that opt for shopping for their favorite items online as opposed to going to the actual stores. This is probably because most businesses shut their brick and mortar stores down immediately to curtail the spread of the virus.
As a means of handling the increase in online shoppers, Amazon has hired nearly 100,000 people to address the situation, though that seems to not solve the issue entirely.
In other news, the largest online retailer was sued by a workers union in Staten Island. In a press release, the workers union said that the company did not follow the health protocols that were set by the New York public health officials. This also means that Amazon was not doing its job in promoting the health and safety of its employees, prompting the union to sue the company for damages and compensation.
Amazon’s Stock Went Up
Despite the issue of employee safety, Amazon did experience a surge in popularity in the quarantine months since March.
Amazon’s stock rose in value as a result of the pandemic as more and more people have opted to buy their stuff online as opposed to going out to physical stores to do the same thing.
While the company is struggling due to the recent spike in demand, it ensures the public that it is doing everything it can to make things flow smoothly.
Retailers and business owners have already predicted that Amazon Prime Day will be delayed and that is because the world’s supply chain was severely affected by the Covid-19 virus.
As a means of making people happy, some companies have put it upon themselves to create their own discounts and deals.
Since most people are working from home, some laptop brands have committed to bringing more affordable laptops to the masses. You can use these as a means of working from home or for distance learning purposes.
Amazon Prime Day is officially delayed and it will be held sometime later this year. Until then, just be on the lookout for other deals that you can find on the internet, but if you are willing to wait for the 48-hour annual celebration, then you are free to do so.
The said ‘Prime’ day will provide you with site-wide discounts and deals that are not usually offered any other time of the year which makes the celebration really special.
Tune in for more updates regarding this issue soon.
Chinese Government is Vehemently Against Trump’s Strong-Arming of TikTok Parent Company
President Trump’s move against China all began when it first banned Huawei from ever conducting any sort of business on US soil.
In that event, US companies such as Google and Facebook were forced to not officially support any Huawei device because it was deemed as a ‘threat to security’ due to the inclusion of listening devices that could potentially steal any vital information.
Well apparently, another Trump sets his sights on another Chinese company. This time, he wants to acquire the rights to Tiktok, a Chinese-owned application that has won the hearts of many.
What is TikTok?
TikTok is an application that was developed by ByteDance, a Chinese-owned company. For those of you who do not know, TikTok lets users upload videos that are up 60 seconds in total and you have the freedom to add whatever music or content you want.
The platform is so popular in Europe and Asia for a time and it has now invaded the hearts of many Americans in recent months.
It seems that ByteDance’s reign on entertainment in the U.S. is going to be short-lived because President Trump wants to gain the rights of the said application.
He added that he wants Microsoft to acquire the rights to the popular application, as well as other future apps developed by the said company.
If both of the companies are not able to strike a deal by September 15, Trump will have no choice but to ban the application in the USA.
As to why the president wants to ban TikTok, he said that he is banning it on the grounds of national security.
To us audience, it doesn’t make sense because the application was developed by ByteDance and Microsoft is not going to be the one that creates or improves the app in the first place.
Chinese Government is Vehemently Against Trump’s Strong-arming Tactics
Without surprise, the Chinese government has expressed that they will fight President Trump’s apparent ‘theft’ of the popular mobile application.
According to a spokesperson, the Chinese government may impose similar restrictions on US-made apps if Trump is going to push through with his demands.
Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Wenbin, said that Trump’s bully tactics are not going to work and it is clearly a ploy that goes against the principles of the market economy.
Wenbin also added that without any clear information as to why Trump deems the application as a ‘threat to national security’, he says that it is nothing more than political manipulation.
Sharing of Data
In a press statement, US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, said that Washington is going to go against other Chinese companies because he and the others believe that such companies, whose applications get serious amounts of personal information, might relay such sensitive data to the Chinese government, thereby posing a threat to the US populace.
True enough, when you install Tiktok on your Mobile Device, you will find that it asks a lot of permissions- some of which are not really needed for the application to operate the way it needs to.
Despite the threat of a ban or a shutdown in US soil, ByteDance issues a statement that it is committed to continuing to serve the avid fans of the application despite ‘complex and unimaginable difficulties.
Bound to Take Action
If Microsoft and ByteDance were not able to strike a deal and Trump goes ahead and bans Tiktok on US soil, the Chinese government is poised to take immediate action and might do the same for other US-based companies in China.
It is still unclear what the Chinese government will do, but one thing is for sure: They are not going to go down without a fight.
Elon Musk’s Tweet Sparked Alien Conspiracy Theories Anew
Elon Musk is a very successful businessman. He owns SpaceX and Tesla and has developed numerous things that could hopefully give us a better future.
But, the SpaceX owner is not without his own quirks as he was recently under fire for his controversial tweet.
In his tweet, he said that it was actually the aliens who built the pyramids and not the Egyptians. As you can expect, the internet went into a frenzy and it has sparked numerous debates as to whether or not there is some truth to Musk’s statement.
In one tweet, the person believed what Musk has said since the pyramids are actually quite symmetrical. That would involve numerous calculations which, at the time, is still crude, to say the least.
However, numerous experts and even the Egyptian Minister of International Co-operation refuted the claim by stating that it was indeed the early Egyptians that built the majestic structures.
According to Rania Al-Mashat, the previously-mentioned Egyptian minister, she admires Musk’s work, especially when it comes to the SpaceX program. However, she insists that it was the early Egyptians who were responsible for building the pyramids.
She added that the pyramids were made as a sign of respect to the Pharaohs who ruled the land back then.
In the same tweet, Al-Masharat invited Musk to the country as she will help him understand the writings and scriptures that pertain to the said structures and to also learn more about the tomb builders themselves as well. Elon Musk still hasn’t responded to this tweet at the time of writing.
‘A Complete Hallucination’
In a video that was released on social media, Egyptian archeologist Zahi Hawass responded to Musk’s claim saying that his statement is nothing but ‘complete hallucination’.
As a person who has explored many pyramids, Hawass can say that they were built by some dedicated builders. He went on to say that the builders themselves were actually not slaves and they deliberately built the tomb of the Pharaohs as a gift to their ruler.
I wouldn’t say that he was furious, but Hawass did express that he was disappointed that a man of Musk’s intelligence would create false claims such as this.
Not Backing Down
In another tweet, Musk referred to a previously published BBC article outlining how the pyramids were built. This was his basis for making such a controversial statement that has spurred many new conspiracy theories as a result.
Musk added that there are more than 100 pyramids that have survived to this day, but the most significant of them all is the one that is located in Giza which stands about 137 meters tall or roughly 450 feet.
What People Think
Elon Musk’s controversial tweet has certainly made the Internet go into a frenzy. There are two camps: Those that do not believe that aliens built the pyramids and those that believe that it was the extraterrestrials all along.
Scott C. Waring, a UFO researcher, explained that he also believes Musk’s statement saying that the pyramids were so intricate that it couldn’t have been built by mere mortals.
You see, the pyramids have been there for thousands of years and at that time, there was no way that the people have the knowledge to build something so magnificent and symmetrical- at least not without the knowledge that most people know today.
He also added that the three major pyramids that can be found in Giza would tell you everything. Even with our advanced technology today, it would still be quite impossible for us to build something like those.
How about the people that refute Musk’s claim? Well, in an interview, Professor Matthew Peeples at the Arizona State University said that all of these alien conspiracy theories are nothing more than ideas that were planted by Hollywood. He also went on to say that pseudoscience is also partly to be blamed for this.
He also added that for you to understand how they were built, you just have to turn your attention towards countless archaeologists that have studied the structures extensively.
He believes that the archaeologists can explain that the pyramids were a collection of just smaller structures to build a larger one. It is not really that difficult as some people would claim it to be.
Elon Musk has certainly sparked alien conspiracies anew with his controversial tweet. There are some people who believe him and there are also others that are against him that is backed up by evidence.
But, what do you think? Do you really believe that Mr. Musk knows something that we don’t?
Microsoft Will Not Open Its Physical Stores Until Early 2021
By now, you are already familiar with Microsoft. You know, that tech company that is responsible for creating the ever-popular Windows operating system, Microsoft Office, and a slew of different programs that you might have used in the past or even until now.
Well, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the tech giant has expressed that it will not open its physical stores until early 2021.
This is a measure that is done by other companies as well and it is a means of slowing the spread of the deadly virus.
While there are some businesses that are slowly opening their physical stores to the public, Microsoft executives were firm in that they will not engage in anything that involves physical contact until a working vaccine is developed.
According to a leaked company memo, the executives of the company will be employing a six-stage process that involves the closing of their stores, work from home schemes, strongly recommending that their employees work from their homes, soft opening, opening with a healthy level of restrictions, and finally reopening the stores once again.
Seeing how things look these days, it is easy for us to assume that the company is either on stage 2 or 3. No wonder laptops have become quite a popular commodity at this time.
In a letter that was sent to The Verge, the company’s tentative date for reopening its physical stores will be January 19, 2021. Since the pandemic is unpredictable, their stores could open before, on, or a few months after the said date. We will just have to wait and see what happens.
Not Only Microsoft
As mentioned earlier, it is not only Microsoft that is closing their offices as other tech companies have also followed suit.
Facebook, for example, closed down some of its offices back in May but has since reopened in July with most of the employees working from home.
According to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, he will only limit physical working capacity to just 25% in the coming months and that is again to limit the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
This is actually a welcome move considering that most people actually prefer working from home. That is probably due to the convenience, as well as the feeling of safety from not having the risk of infection.
Google, one of the biggest tech companies in the world, has also employed the same plan as well.
In a press release, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has told his workers to work from home and they should expect to work remotely in the foreseeable future or until things have gotten under control.
While most of the company’s work involves online virtual meetings, there are some people that are required to visit physical offices, but as to who these people are, Pichai didn’t disclose any.
When things have started to calm down, Pichai will not immediately open the company’s offices to all of its employees.
In fact, he said that he will slowly introduce more and more employees as time goes by so as to ensure that the virus will not spread abruptly.
Twitter Takes It Up a Notch
While Google and Facebook have expressed work from home schemes at least until early 2021, Twitter CEO has taken it up a notch and has expressed that he will allow his employees to work at the comfort of their own homes indefinitely.
In an issued statement not too long ago, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has stated that employees will have the freedom to work remotely even after the pandemic subsides.
The company has employed a work-from-home scheme since March and Dorsey said that the company will not open its doors until September at the very least.
He also added that the only people that are required to report from time to time in the company’s physical offices would be those employees that are responsible for server maintenance.
Don’t Forget About Amazon
Amazon’s Prime Day has been delayed until later this year but it doesn’t mean that the company isn’t working hard.
The largest online retailer in the world allows some of its workforce to work from home, albeit there are some people that are required to man the physical warehouses for product distribution and maintenance.
It is good to know that some huge companies all over the world have taken a firm stance in protecting their employees from the dangerous Covid-19 virus.
The move to close down physical stores and allowing their employees to work from home is a welcome choice indeed since it will not only help limit the spread of the virus but it will also give peace of mind to the people who are working for them as well.
If you are also working remotely, make sure to get a pretty good laptop so that you can function as effectively as you would in your physical office.
Hopefully, a working vaccine will be introduced in the near future so that everything will go back to normal once again.
